An Asian woman was randomly assaulted in Manhattan on Sunday afternoon in a possible hate crime attack, police and sources reported.
The 41-year-old victim was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground as she walked down West 31st Street, near Sixth Avenue, around 1 p.m., police said.
The suspect, a 37-year-old woman, shouted something in Spanish at the victim during the attack, according to police sources.
The victim alerted police and later helped them locate their assailant near the intersection of the crime, sources said.
Police said they arrested the suspect and are investigating the incident as a possible bias offense. No charges were filed at the end of Sunday.
The Big Apple is experiencing an increase in attacks on people of Asian descent. Last year there were 28 racially motivated attacks compared to only two in 2019.
