HOUSTON – Shortstop Carlos Correa and the Houston Stars reached an agreement yesterday that will prevent them from wage arbitration hearings, by agreeing for a year and $ 11.7 million.
Correa had asked for $ 12.5 million, while the Stars offered $ 9,750,000.
The 26-year-old boricua was going to report a salary of eight million dollars last year. This was reduced to $ 2,962,963, due to apportionment in the face of the shortening of the pandemic campaign.
In 56 duels from the previous season, Correa beat 264 with five home runs and 25 RBIs. In the postseason, his performance was remarkable, averaging .362, 6 homers and 17 RBIs in 13 games.
Houston was left with a win to advance to the World Series.
Among the shortstops of the majors, Correa was the leader with a fielding percentage of 995. He made only one mistake.
“Going into the arbitration process is necessary sometimes. It’s there for a reason,” said Astres general manager James Click. “But we’re all pleased to leave that behind, so we can focus on our priority, which is to compete for a championship, with Carlos and the rest of the team.”
Correa was also grateful to resolve his situation.
“I’m glad we were able to come to an agreement and avoid arbitration,” he stressed. “Arbitration is not a good process.”
