ASUS CES Showcase is a free Steam game

Due to the ongoing global pandemic, this year Consumer electronics sample it is a completely online matter. Gaming hardware manufacturer ASUS takes the digital format of the program to the extreme ROG Citadel XV, a free download on Steam that consists of a (small) part of the first-person shooter, a part in a luxury virtual hardware showroom.

ROG stands for Republic of Gamers, the luxury gaming brand from ASUS, as seen on laptops, desktops, video cards, monitors, graphics cards, motherboards and more. ROG Citadel XV is a high-tech base of operations for this fictitious organization, of which the player is operational. The game begins when the player wakes up in their accommodation, where a cheeky robot named Omni greets them and offers to take them on tour.

The tour leads the player to a virtual showroom, where the ASUS 2021 hardware line is displayed. Hardware like the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE, a fascinating new gaming laptop with a secondary screen that can be lifted to open a hidden air intake to encourage cooling. I met the Zephyrus Duo 15 by walking up to the game showroom and clicking on it.

Each product in the showroom gets its own very detailed 3D model, with specifications and details on the left and interactive elements on the right. Click the factoid button on the keyboard switch to the left of the ROG Claymore II keyboard and the virtual card keys come out, showing the sweet optical switches below.

Aside from exploring and clicking for secrets, there aren’t many real games ROG Citadel XV. There is a shooting range, complete with online leaderboards, but there is only one useful weapon and it is very rudimentary.

It’s advertising, of course. ROG Citadel XVThe main reason for the existence is to sell things from ASUS. But damn, what an attractive way to interact with the company’s CES 2021 training. Give me this for any boring press release or web catalog.
