Morrison’s comments came hours after the Australian newspaper and Channel 10 reported allegations and images of an anonymous whistleblower about lewd behavior by male government staff in the House of Parliament.
Men appeared filming themselves having sex alone, including at the table of a female Member of Parliament.
A government staff member has been removed from office, a government minister said on Tuesday.
Morrison described the report as “disgusting” and said he would speak Tuesday with all government staff members to remind them of their responsibilities.
The issue encouraged tens of thousands of people to concentrate in Australia last week and sparked a drop in Morrison’s position in opinion polls.
Morrison has tried to defend his government’s actions to work to improve gender equality, but on Tuesday admitted there was great dissatisfaction.
“I recognize that many Australians, especially women, think I haven’t heard them, and that distresses me a lot,” Morrison told Canberra reporters.
“We have to do better … we have to tidy up this house.”
Still, he offered few concrete proposals to improve the workplace culture in parliament, and insisted that changes would be announced in the coming weeks.
