The National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD), in conjunction with the Navy of the Dominican Republic (ARD), confiscated about 615 packages presumably of cocaine, in two operations deployed on the coasts of San Pedro de Macorís and Azua.
In a first operation, authorities intercepted the occupants of a boat, about 10 nautical miles south of the coast of Sant Pere de Macorís, when they tried to introduce a shipment of drugs into Dominican territory.
After boarding the boat they seized 13 sacks containing the packages and arrested two men, both Dominicans, who were aboard the 22-foot-long boat, with two engines outboard.
Also during the search were occupied two GPS, a satellite phone, cell phones, seven bottles of fuel, two life jackets, tarpaulins, two beach refrigerators with energy drinks, water and groceries.
In the second intervention the DNCD and the Navy captured the crew of a boat that tried to disembark by the coasts of the province of Azua, 10 sacks containing 300 packages of a substance that is presumed is cocaine.
Two Dominican men were captured in the operation, and a 5.56-caliber Colt rifle, a GPS, four cell phones, a refrigerator with drinks, water, food and two outboard engines of 60 and 75 Hp were seized.
The announcement was made through a statement, which also indicated that the investigation was under the coordination of the Public Ministry.
They similarly claimed the maritime ban “has been redoubled” on the country’s coastal coastline, resulting in the seizure of more than 600 packages of alleged cocaine in the east and south of the country, capturing four Dominicans and occupying multiple pieces of evidence.
Reports on the operations specified that the vessels would have reached Dominican shores from South America.
The 615 occupied packages are being sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) to determine the type and weight of the substance.
