Baker Mayfield could provide hope for the Jets for Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield will always be linked as high-end members of the same draft class in 2018.

When the two quarterbacks debuted Sunday, Mayfield, who was the No. 1 pick, has the Browns on the precipice of their first playoff spot since 2002, with a 10-4 record a year after finishing second in the league with 21 interceptions in a 6-10 season.

Darnold, the 2018 No. 3 pick and the Jets didn’t win their first game of 2020 until last week against the Rams, but the game improved tremendously from year to year for Mayfield and the Browns perhaps they can be a lesson for the Jets if they don’t make a splashy quarterback change through next season’s draft.

“Baker’s has been playing very well. Honestly, I haven’t been watching a lot of him, but they’re obviously winning games, so he must be doing a good job, “Darnold said after practice on Thursday.” I always say that and I’ll say it again. The quarterbacks and the coaches of this league are always judged by victories and defeats. That is.

“Baker has won this year and this year we have not won as many as we would like, obviously. We will continue to be judged on this, as we should be. … Baker’s has been doing a really good job this year and I think for me it’s clear I have to work on a few things. “

Darnold added that his family tested COVID-19 through the Jets and will spend Christmas with them.

Adam Gase, rookie left-hander Mekhi Becton, faces Pro Bowl defensive final Myles Garrett (11 sacks) on Sunday: “If you want to know where you are, this is the right man to oppose. … When you see him play live, it’s an impressive sight to see. “

Ryan Griffin was placed on the reserve list / COVID-19 on Wednesday because he was considered to be in close contact with someone outside the organization who tested positive. Gase said he still believes Griffin “has a chance” to play on Sunday if he remains negative.

Browns rookie left-back Jedrick Wills was placed on the reserve list / COVID-19 on Thursday, but apparently could play.

In addition to Curtis Martin Marcus Maye MVP Award winner, they also won Frank Gore (Dennis Byrd / Most Inspirational), Griffin (Ed Block / Courage), Matthias Farley (Marty Lyons / Community Service), Folorunso Fatukasi ( Kyle Clifton / Good) Guy) and Denzel Mims (Bill Hampton / Rookie Who Acts Like a Pro). … CB Javelin Guidry (knee) did not practice.
