LANDOVER, Md. – The Baltimore Ravens won their twentieth straight preseason game Saturday night, but JK Dobbins ’knee injury faced any unofficial NFL record.
Dobbins was ruled out for the remainder of the Ravens ’37-3 loss to Washington after suffering a left knee injury in the first outing.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh declined to specify his level of concern over Dobbins’ injury after the match.
“It will be tested [Sunday]”Harbaugh said.” We’ll see where we are, right now. “
Dobbins was found lying on the ground holding his left knee after being attacked on a screen pass in the ninth play of the game. He was fitted to the play and his left knee received a direct blow from the shoulder of Washington cornerback Jimmy Moreland.
Dobbins needed help getting to the side and had his arms draped over the coaches ’shoulders because he couldn’t put weight on his left leg. He was soon moved to the locker room.
James Proche, Ravens’s receiver, let out a long sigh when asked to see how Dobbins left the field this way.
“That hurts, brother, because you know how much work he did [and] the kind of guy he is, “Proche said.” He loves the game. Whenever a guy gets a game, he really feels for it. “
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said “hopefully” Dobbins doesn’t waste time on injury.
“That’s a tremendous back,” Jackson said. “But we have Gus [Edwards] and we have Ty [Williams]. Hopefully, it’s good. “
A selection from the second round a year ago, Dobbins was entering his first season as a Baltimore star. Last season, Dobbins was instrumental in the Ravens ’final push of the season to reach the playoffs, winning 425 yards (eighth most in the NFL) and scoring six touchdowns in the last five games of the regular season.
Last year, Dobbins averaged 6.0 yards per carry, the second-highest average for a rookie who has come back in the last 20 seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. Only Saints Alvin Kamara (6.1) had a higher average as a rookie.
“I wasn’t expecting anything, but I know it will go well, no matter what happens,” Ravens defender Patrick Queen said of Dobbins ’injury. “Prayers for him, for sure.”
Baltimore’s is among the best safety runners in the NFL. He was signed for a two-year, $ 10 million extension this offseason after being one of two players in NFL history who produced at least 700 rushing yards and an average of more than 5 yards per carry in the three first seasons of his career, according to an investigation by the Elias Sports Office. The other is Nick Chubb, two-time Pro Bowl, Cleveland Browns.
After Dobbins ’injury, the Ravens ended up finishing their perfect sixth straight preseason behind Tyler Huntley’s five touchdowns (four passes and one rushing). Baltimore eclipsed the Green Bay Packers, coached by Vince Lombardi, who won 19 straight preseason games from 1959 to 1962.
Although the official record is unknown, the Ravens ’pre-season winning streak in 20 games is the longest anyone has confirmed since 1995 at the Elias Sports Bureau.
The Ravens ’last preseason loss was on September 3, 2015.
“I just think it’s great. … There are a lot of guys watching on TV telling their kids about this success and that they were part of it,” Harbaugh said of the preseason record. “That’s the most significant thing.”
