When Apple announced the iPhone 12 models with MagSafe charging features, the first wereMagSafe third-party accessories were shown during the announcement. Shortly afterwards, Belkin officially introduced the Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 wireless charger with MagSafe, which is the first thirdMagSafeaf third-party charging option.
Belkin’s Boost Charge Pro’s KinMagSafe is available for purchase on January 8th, and prior to release, I’ve been testing the charger to see its performance compared to the standalone charger MagSafe and if it’s worth the asking price of $ 150.
Designed, the ostMagSafe Boost Charge Pro looks similar to other Belkin 3-in-1 chargers on the market. Made of a white plastic material coated with a softer silicone, the Boost Charge Pro MagSafe has a circular base with a ch-shaped t-shaped arm that comes from the top of it and houses a MagSafe charger on one side and an Apple Watch loading the disc to the other.
The design looks simple and straightforward, but I would like the circular base to be a little smaller or rectangular to better fit a desk. I find the shape a bit awkward on my small desk because it is about 5.3 inches wide at its widest point, but considering the weight of the iPhone with the angle of the charger, you probably need a base of this size to stay upright. Both load disks are static and cannot be rotated or tilted in any way, and the default angle takes up more vertical space than I would like.
The MagSafe charger works with all Apple iphone 12 models and is sized so that it can be used in portrait or landscape mode. Even the larger iPhone 12 Pro Max can be used in landscape mode without interfering with the Apple Watch charging disc on the other side. The magnets line up quickly and it’s easy to get an “iPhone” in the right place to charge, even in the dark.
The same soft material that covers Apple’s standard MagSafe charger covers the Belkin agMagSafe charger, while the Apple Watch charging disc is a softer plastic like Apple’s own charging options for Apple Watch. You can get the Boost Charge Pro ostMagSafe in black or white and there’s a more sticky silicone material at the bottom of the accessory to make sure it stays in place on a desk when you hold an iPhone, in addition to having a weighted basis.
You’ll notice that in many of my photos, the Apple Watch is tilted, and that’s because it doesn’t want to stick directly to the Apple Watch’s charging disc. It rotates with a push or when a iphone 12 is connected / detached, but keep in mind that I have a 40mm Apple Watch. With later testing with a 44mm Apple Watch, I didn’t see this same problem. It is also less pronounced with a 40mm heavier stainless steel Apple Watch, but the problem is present with this model.
The ostMagSafe from Boost Charge Pro is quite light, but with the sticky base I had no trouble lifting it or changing it when removing my iphone from the charger. There is a white LED light at the top of the base that lets you know that the AirPods are properly aligned and charged. It turns amber if alignment is off or there is an object in the path. I’m not a fan of charging lights on docks because they distract at night, but at least that light is limited to charging “AirPods”.
The iphone fits the charger at an angle and is easy to see when viewed on a bedside table or desk while charging if you receive an incoming notification or want to check the time. If you wanted, you could also use it for FaceTime calls or to watch videos in landscape mode.
Because it is a 3-in-1 charger, the base of the Boost Charge Pro agMagSafe is a wireless charging platform that can house irAirPods or AirPods Pro, so you can charge Apple Watch, iPhone 12 and irAirPodsod on the same time. time. The small circular indentation of the charger directs you to where you place the “AirPods” to charge them.
The ostMagSafe Boost Charge Pro can charge an iphone 12 up to 15W, which is the same charging speed as the standard MagSafe standard charger, while providing enough power for irAirPods and Apple Watch. Apple’s own MagSafe Duo that combines a discMagSafe charging disc with an Apple Watch charger is limited to 14W, so the Belkin charger should be a bit faster.
Apple’s standard agMagSafe charger charged iphone 12 (totally dead) at 61% in one hour with a 20W power adapter, and the Boost Charge Pro charged it at 66%, so it was even more faster than the standard charger. I’m not sure if I wouldn’t get 15W charging with the Apple MagSafe gold charger or something, but I was happy with Belkin’s charging speeds. I also did tests with three devices at once, and since death, Boost Charge Pro’s theMagSafe was able to charge an iphone 12 at 61% in one hour, while also charging an Apple Watch and another iPhone.
Belkin provides a 40W power adapter and a 1.5m cable with the Boost Charge Pro MagSafe, and this takes away all the assumptions of which power adapter you need to get the fastest speeds. Apple does not include a power adapter with the MagSafe charger or the agMagSafe Duo. For the MagSafe charger, you must use Apple’s official 20W charger or other charger that is compatible or not, and for the MagSafe Duo, the maximum speed requires a compatible 27W + charger.
Trying to figure out which power adapters I can use with Apple’s charging options has been a hassle, so I’m grateful that Belkin has a power adapter ready. A third-party power adapter cannot be used because it does not work via USB.
The downside of Boost Charge Pro ostMagSafe is that the agMagSafe charger does not work with older iPhones. Technically, MagSafe chargers are compatible with previous iPhones and can charge them at 7.5 W, but Belkin’s vertical design is based on magnets to hold the iPhone in place and since there are no agMagSafeaf magnets in the Old iPhones, there is no viable charging option.
You can charge an older iPhone where the irAirPods are intended, although this charging point is designed specifically for irAirPods, as it is only a Qi-based wireless charger. This charging station worked with an i iPhonehone X, an iPhone 11 Pro Max, a PiPhone 12 and a PiPhone 12 Pro Max, so I guess it fits most devices. Since this charging point is aimed at AirPods, it is limited to 5 W, but I found it to work perfectly for my non-iPhone 12 devices and I was grateful to have the option.
Although it is compatible, you can use the Boost Charge Pro MagSafe with MagSafe cases. I tried the Apple MagSafe cases and it worked fine. I don’t have cases other than MagSafe to test, but Belkin says it’s specifically designed to work with MagSafe certified cases.
Bottom line
If you’re looking for a multi-device charger for an iPhone 12, this is what you can get. It works with any WatchiPhone 12 model of Apple Watch and irAirPods and, at $ 150, only costs $ 30 than the folding MagSafe Duo.
The MagSafe Duo is the best choice for traveling, but for a charger you plan to use at home, the ostMagSafe Boost Charge Pro is an attractive and functional device charger that works as expected. I have no real complaints about the Belkin agMagSafe charger and since it works with three devices, allows vertical operation and includes a power adapter, I prefer it much more than the agMagSafe Duo.
How to buy
