Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Tuesday presented a dramatic request to officials at a department-wide meeting to “be the resistance” after the presidential transition next month, Politico reports. Citing a recording of the virtual meeting, Politico reports that DeVos recognized for the first time that many attending staff members would stay after the transition before launching into their Trump tangent. “Let me leave you with this request: Resist,” she said. “Be the resistance against the forces that will derail you from doing what is right for students. In everything you do, put students first, always. “DeVos also noted that he had always strived to do” what is right for students “and noted his renewal of Title IX rules on sexual assault as one of his greatest achievements. of the Obama era, which regulates how schools should handle sexual assault allegations, was criticized for giving more rights to sexual assault defendants in a way that critics say makes things much more difficult for survivors.Elected President Joe Biden has said he intends to put a “quick end” to DeVos ’Title IX review.
