TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras.- Distressed and helpless, relatives and co-workers rushed to remove the lifeless body of the military police who lost their lives violently last Friday night at the Támara penitentiary in the capital of Honduras.
The young man’s father Pedro López Mejía (26), clung to his other relatives while waiting for the coffin to come out, outside the facilities of the Center for Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences.

Minutes later, 3 uniformed from the Public Order Military Police (PMOP) carried the coffin to be later taken to the municipality of Santa Elena, in the Department of Peace, where he was originally from.

López Mejía, Was assigned to the maximum security module of this penitentiary, so as it transpired, on Friday night he approached one of the cells to bring food to a detainee, who allegedly had been the person responsible for his death.

Versions indicate that the criminal attacked the soldier, hitting him hard on the head using a padlock and later, inflicted several wounds with a knife.
Authorities at the country’s main penal center have not yet ruled on the violent act, so the identity of the perpetrator and the possible motive for the attack are unknown.
