“Jill and I wish you and your family peace, joy, health and happiness this season. But we know that for many of you in our nation this has been a very difficult year and this season reminds us of our common humanity and what we are called to do for each other, ”Biden said in a video on Twitter. “Many of our fellow Americans struggle to find work, literally put food on the table, and pay rent or mortgage.”
“It reminds us that we are in this land to take care of each other, give what we can and be a source of help and hope for friends and strangers alike,” the president-elect added.
Jill Biden, who will become first lady next month after the inauguration of Joe Biden, added in Friday’s video that “Many families face first Christmas after losing a loved one. And me and I know this grief. And we know how, in times of mourning, a kind word can mean so much.
Joe Biden added that his family welcomes up to 25 people on Christmas Eve, but that they canceled the tradition this year amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“We’re going to miss our family, but that’s what we need to do to keep our family safe,” he said. “We hope you also consider limiting travel and the size of family reunions this year.”

The couple also thanked service members, front-line and essential workers and COVID-19 vaccine researchers.
Harris said in a separate video on Friday that “I know it’s a very different Christmas than we are used to. But it’s time to say hello, see us and celebrate. ”
Harris ’husband, Doug Emhoff, said his family traditionally celebrates a brunch with the family over Christmas.
“It will be a much smaller situation and I think of all the families who will also have, as Joe says, an empty chair at the table because of someone they have lost,” Harris said with the couple. also thanking front-line workers and members of the military service.
“We’re going to get through this moment and get over this moment,” Harris said.
