President Biden said Monday at a forest fire-focused event in Idaho on Monday that his “first job offer” came from the local Boise Cascade wood and wood products business, but the company says it “has no record” that this is true.
Biden, who is famous for sharing memories that didn’t go away, said he regularly mentioned the job offer to his Idaho Senate colleague, the late Democratic Sen. Frank Church.
“I told this to Frank Church, I had one – my first job offer, where I wanted – my wife, the dead woman and I wanted to move to Idaho because we, it’s not a joke, it’s such a beautiful state and “And I did a job interview at Boise Cascade,” said Biden.
And he added: “And meanwhile there was a war. Anyways. But the thing was, he was always Frank’s boy. “
But Boise Cascade spokeswoman Lisa Tschampl told The Post, “We have no record of President Biden’s request or of having worked for the company.”
Tschampl said “we have checked our system internally and nothing has come out.”
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Post was unable to locate any previous Biden records that mentioned the company, including news clippings filed by the Nexis and Factiva databases.
In Biden’s 2007 memoirs, “Promises to Keep,” he doesn’t mention the company or the desire to move to Idaho.
It is unclear where the Idaho timber application would fit into the Delaware president-centered legal and political career.
Biden graduated from Syracuse University Law School in 1968 and received a medical adjournment of the ongoing Vietnam War due to a history of asthma. He then worked as a legal secretary and public defender in Delaware before joining the New Castle County Council in 1970.
His autobiography says that Biden and his late wife, Neilia, whom he married in 1966 while studying law, moved to his home state of Delaware in 1968 shortly after graduating with a law degree. .
Biden wrote that during her senior year in law school, “Neilia and I hadn’t yet decided where we would live, so I hadn’t accepted a job.” But his father, in Wilmington, USA, arranged for a meeting with a local judge, who referred him to a lawyer, whose firm offered him a job.
In 1972, Biden was elected to the United States Senate. His first wife died in a car accident shortly after the election victory in the Senate.
Tschampl, the corporate spokeswoman, allowed Biden to look for work with the company, but to lose records when the company abandoned some of its previous projects, such as the concrete, plastics and textiles divisions.
“We had a diverse portfolio in the 60s and early 70s … so I guess the records have been purged or transferred to companies / projects in which we no longer participate,” he said.
“I wouldn’t want to speculate on what kind of paper I might have applied for in 1972. Today we are a manufacturer of wood products and a wholesale distributor of building materials.”
Biden has a record of inaccurate or embellished claims. He left his first presidential campaign in 1988 due to a speech-related plagiarism scandal and a law school document and controversy over the claims he made about his academic record.
But as the nation’s oldest president, Biden’s mental acuity is also a frequent topic of public debate.
This month, Biden falsely claimed he remembered “spending time in” and “going” to the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh after the mass murder of 11 people in October 2018. After the synagogue said that not visiting, the White House said he spoke ill and referred to a 2019 phone call with the congregation rabbi.
In an infamous misrepresentation, Biden claimed in 2020 that he “had the great honor of being arrested” in South Africa when he “tried to see [Nelson Mandela] on Robbens Island, ”where Mandela was in prison until 1990. He said Mandela thanked him. He later admitted it was false.
