Biden plays Newsom on the eve of the memorial: “The eyes of the nation are set on California”

Biden gathered next to Newsom in Long Beach, California, on the eve of the withdrawal vote. The president warned hundreds of supporters that the withdrawal would have catastrophic consequences for the pandemic, climate change, workers’ rights and the treatment of women.

A survey by the Berkeley Institute for Government Studies conducted for the Los Angeles Times and published last week showed that 60% of California voters would reject the withdrawal, while only 39% say they will support the removal of Newsom.

This gap has widened substantially since late July, when only 50% said they would vote to retain Newsom and 47% said they would vote to remove him a year before his term expires.

Biden became the last Democratic leader to campaign for Newsom. The governor has appeared in recent days alongside Vice President Harris and the senator. California voters should vote “yes” or “no” on the question of whether to remember Newsom, which has been targeted by Republicans over pandemic policies in particular. If a majority of voters vote “yes,” Newsom will be remembered and the Republican candidate who receives the highest percentage of votes will become the next governor.

The president on Monday urged California Democrats to go into effect and not take the result for granted in a state where registered Democrats far outnumber registered Republicans.

Millions of voters have already voted through early voting and mail voting, leading to questions about why Biden waited until the last possible day to visit California in support of Newsom.
