The exchange began with Biden saying he wanted to ask a question “about the most interesting guy I know in the press.”

Doocey asked the president if he “takes responsibility” for what has happened in Afghanistan since the withdrawal of troops began.

“I’m responsible for basically everything that’s happened,” Biden replied, before moving on to the Trump deal with the Taliban.

Doocey noted that no member of the service had been killed in combat in Afghanistan since 2020, prompting Biden to respond by saying he only went through the agreement between Trump and the Taliban.

“The former president made a deal with the Taliban to remove all U.S. forces from Afghanistan on May 1. In return, he pledged and, a year earlier, pledged that the Taliban would continue to attack others but I wouldn’t attack any force. Remember that? ” Biden asked Doocey.

Doocey tried to answer before Biden intervened to say, “I’m asking you a question. Is that correct, as far as I know?”

The two talked about each other, with Biden putting his head on the microphone frustrated before Doocey asked a follow-up question.

“Do you think people have trouble getting out of Afghanistan or just how things have gone?” Doocey asked.

Biden said he thought individuals had a problem with the “mess” of the withdrawal, before discussing Trump again.

Biden reiterated that he believes the only reason no member of the U.S. service has been killed since early last year was because of Trump’s deal with the Taliban.
