Washington, United States
U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday revoked a move by his predecessor, Donald Trump, vetoing the entry of some immigrants into a “labor market risk,” including those benefiting from the lottery. of visas and relatives of permanent residents or U.S. citizens.
With another proclamation published today by the White House, Biden reversed with immediate effect to the decision that Trump announced on April 22 last year in the early months of the coronavirus pandemic, which hit the U.S. economy hard and slowed job creation.
Trump’s decision, contained in Proclamation 10014, was extended in June 2020 and later on December 31, and ordered the suspension of “the entry of immigrants and non-immigrants at risk during the economic recovery after the ‘outbreak of coronavirus’.
But Biden noted in his Wednesday proclamation that preventing the arrival of these people “does not promote the interests of the United States.”
“On the contrary, it harms the United States, even by preventing certain relatives of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents from reuniting with their families here.”
Fiscal Year 2020
According to Biden’s proclamation, his predecessor’s decision “also harms U.S. industries that use talent from around the world and harms people who were selected to receive the opportunity to apply, and those who have also received, immigrant visas through the Diversity Visa Lottery for Fiscal Year 2020 “.
“Proclamation 10014 has prevented these people from entering the United States, which has led, in some cases, to delays and the possible loss of their opportunity to receive diversity visas for the fiscal year 2020 and to realize his dreams in the United States, ”he added.
In addition to rescinding the past government decision, Biden ordered the secretaries of state, labor and national security to review “any regulations, orders, guidance documents, policies and any other similar action” developed under the proclamation revoked and, where appropriate, revised provisions are issued in accordance with the policy issued today.
Biden, who took office on January 20, has tried in his first weeks in office to overthrow a network of rules adopted by his predecessor to reduce migration to the United States, especially through benefits such as asylum. EFE
