“We’re considering the advice you gave that we should start earlier,” Biden said.
“The question is whether it should be less than eight months, should it be almost five months? This is being discussed. I spoke with Dr. Fauci this morning about this,” Biden said, referring to Anthony Fauci, the its director and chief medical officer of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Israel was one of the first countries to announce a strengthening program last month. Currently, anyone over the age of 30 in Israel can choose a third dose of vaccine at least five months after their second dose.
The Biden administration’s plans to administer booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are an effort to “stay ahead” of the coronavirus, said U.S. general surgeon Dr. Vivek Murthy, during a virtual White House briefing on the ad.
Murthy stressed that coronavirus vaccines still appear to be effective in protecting against severe Covid-19, hospitalization, and death, but the data suggest that protection against mild to moderate disease appears to decrease over time and U.S. health officials want to increase protection before it declines against serious illness.
