Biden says Iran, which enriches uranium to 60%, is not useful, but is pleased that the country is engaging in indirect talks.

“We do not support, and I do not think it is at all useful, for Iran to say that it will go on to get rich up to 60%. It is against the agreement,” Biden said during a press conference at the Rose Garden.

“However, we are pleased that Iran has continued to agree to participate in discussions, indirect discussions with us and our partners on how we are moving forward and what is needed to return to the agreement (Iran) so we are part of it again. … without making concessions, we just aren’t willing to do that. ” Biden added.

Earlier this week, Iran’s deputy foreign minister and top nuclear negotiator Abbas Araghchi told Press TV that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had reported the decision. Tehran to increase enrichment to 60% purity, a big step up to current purity levels of 20%.

The announcement came just days after a blackout at Iran’s Natanz nuclear site, an underground uranium enrichment facility. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused Israel of sabotaging the facility and vowed revenge.

The decision pushes Iran to reach the level of 90% enrichment that is considered of arms quality. Iran has continually denied any intention to assemble nuclear weapons.

Biden said Friday that he believes it is premature to rule on what the outcome of the talks will be, but countries are still talking.
