The newly appointed president plans to appoint Susan Orsega, a nurse and officer of the U.S. Public Health Service Corps, among the first nurses to play the role, two people with knowledge of her selection told the Post. A source said Biden could select Orsega to serve as soon as Tuesday.
The White House and the Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.

Confirmation hearings for Murthy, who served as general surgeon during President Obama’s administration, have not yet been scheduled.
“The committee is ready to continue with an aggressive hearing schedule once we organize, with nominations as the top priority,” Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee spokeswoman Madeleine Russak said in the post.
Orsega will not be the first nurse in the place. Sylvia Trent-Adams served as Trump’s acting general surgeon and Richard Carmona was confirmed as general surgeon to former President George W. Bush.
His selection would come as the country dealt with the coronavirus pandemic that has infected more than 25 million confirmed in the U.S. and killed more than 420,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
