He gave some “bad news” in a CNN interview on Sunday to those who are optimistic about the immediate US arrival of the first COVID-19 vaccine.
“
‘Unfortunately, the next four to six months can be the worst of epidemics. The IHME estimate shows more than 200,000 additional deaths. If we follow the rules, we can avoid a large percentage of those deaths, such as wearing a mask and not mixing. ‘
”
In other words, keep expectations about the impact of the vaccine in check.
Gates explained to CNN host Jack Topper. “This virus is more dangerous than that. We didn’t get the worst of it. But what surprised me was that the economic impact in the United States and around the world is far greater than I predicted five years ago. ”
By the summer of 2021, Gates said, the world could begin with a few cautions of returning to its long-awaited state of normalcy.
“Even in early 2022, if we do not help other countries get rid of this disease and our country does not get higher vaccination rates, there is a risk of reintroduction,” he said. “Of course, the world economy will slow down, which will affect the US economy quite dramatically. “
