Bill Gates is “neutral” to Bitcoin, he supports digital currencies

Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates said he has a “neutral view” on Bitcoin, but that he supports the digitization of money as a way to reduce transaction costs.

In an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box, Gates said he had a neutral view on Bitcoin. He revealed that he did not own any bitcoin and that he was not short of the cryptocurrency.

Gates, who recently published a book on global climate change prevention, has led the Gates Foundation alongside his wife Melinda since leaving Microsoft. He explained that the Foundation was working to create greater transparency with the money and reverse the charges, rather than protect anonymity.

Gates commented that the volatility of bitcoin prices was being driven by “mania” in the markets and that it would be difficult to predict the trajectory of the cryptocurrency.

Recent comments from the tech billionaire represent an evolution of bitcoin. In May 2018, Gates famously said he would cut bitcoin “if there was an easy way to do it,” and said he had quickly sold the BTC he received for a birthday present.
