Billy Hamilton reaches a minor league deal with the Cleveland Indians

CLEVELAND – Fast-forward Frank Billy Hamilton has agreed a minor league deal with the Cleveland Indians, a person familiar with the deal told the Associated Press on Thursday night.

Hamilton, who spent last season with the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs, will also receive an invitation to the major league training camp, the person said on condition of anonymity because the contract cannot be finalized until that medical tests are not completed.

Hamilton, 30, will join a congested field competition for the Indians, who are trying to improve a troubled area in recent seasons.

Last week, Cleveland hired former Minnesota pitcher Eddie Rosario for a $ 8 million one-year deal, but he appears to be the only player to have secured a starting spot. Earlier Thursday, Indians and veteran Ben Gamel agreed on a minor league deal with an invitation to camp.

Hamilton has a .241 career batting for eight seasons, six with the Cincinnati Reds. He has also played in Kansas City and Atlanta.

Hamilton would bring some speed to the Indians. He stole at least 56 bases for the Reds each season from 2014 to 2017.
