Blake Griffin will debut in the Brooklyn Nets, with a minute restriction

Blake Griffin will debut Sunday with the Brooklyn Nets against the Washington Wizards. Griffin said he will have a minute restriction.

Griffin last played on Feb. 12 against the Boston Celtics when he was still a member of the Detroit Pistons. After accepting a purchase with Detroit and signing with Brooklyn, Griffin met with the Nets training staff and devised a plan to return to the game that would get him back in shape.

“No one sits for a month and then comes back and plays right away,” Griffin told ESPN. “So I just want to be smart and listen to people who know what they’re talking about and make sure I give myself the best chance to get in, contribute and be healthy during the playoffs and beyond.”

While he was off the list for the maintenance of injuries to his left knee, Griffin has been so firm that he was never injured. Sunday morning, Griffin said the Nets training staff took a full-body approach to increase their workload and not just focused on the knee.

Griffin traveled with the Nets on his last road trip to Indiana and worked with Nets coaching staff and Kevin Durant, who has missed the last 13 Nets games with a strain on the curve. Brooklyn has played a total of four games without Griffin since signing with the franchise.

Griffin, 32, played 20 games in Detroit this season and averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists.
