Bodycam images show the second arrest of the woman without a mask, this time in the Texas City store

HOUSTON – On Friday, Texas City police released camera footage of the bodies of two officers involved in the arrest of a woman without masks.

Terry Wright is accused of refusing to wear a mask inside a Texas City store. A few days earlier, she was charged with resisting arrest and criminal offense for the same act inside a Galveston bank. This incident happened a day after Texas lifted the state mask mandate.

On Wednesday, just after 9 a.m., Texas City police said they responded to an Office Depot at 9550 Emmett F Lowry Expy, where a woman at the store refused to wear a mask or leave the shop.

According to bodycam footage, the first officer arrived at the store and was met by an employee. As the officer approached, the woman called information from the phone and propped herself up against a cash register in front of the store.

The officer told the woman, “If he refuses to leave, he will go to jail for infraction.”

“It simply came to our notice then. You want to read this, ”Wright replied as he directed the officer to look at his phone. “These are my federal rights.”

Wright refused to leave the store and the agent proceeded to handcuff her while she resisted and told her he was violating her rights. By this time, another officer had arrived at the scene and helped handcuff and escort Wright out of the store.

In the other video from the body camera, the second officer entered the store and approached Wright, who was being held by another officer.

“This is a major violation,” Wright said repeatedly as officers handcuffed them.

“I try to school you my rights,” he said later as he walked out of the store.

When the two agents escorted him out of the store, they discovered that Wright was also involved in the Bank of America incident in Galveston last week. They contacted Galveston police and confirmed that Wright had two arrest warrants related to the Galveston incident.

Wright was arrested and transported to Galveston County Jail by the Texas City Police Department for reservation and prosecution. According to the Texas City Police Department, she was arrested on a felony charge, with a $ 1,000 bail and a charge of transportation or resisting arrest.

According to the statement, no additional charges related to the Office Depot incident were filed.

According to the videos, there were at least three officers at the scene.
