Boiling water notice in effect for approximately 100,000 Fort Worth residents – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Approximately 100,000 residents north of Fort Worth are being urged to boil water before consumption after an electrical outage at a water treatment plant, according to the city.

The boiling water warning applies primarily to people living north of Interstate 820, near Interstate 35W, U.S. Highway 287, and Lake Eagle Mountain. The city said it expected the warning to remain in place at least until noon Wednesday.

The warning comes after the Eagle Mountain water plant and the 6800 block water pump station at Bowman Roberts Road lost electricity Monday afternoon, according to the city of Fort Worth. The plant experienced several falls on Monday.

Much of Texas experienced power outages Monday due to the statewide winter weather.

The city said water from an elevated water tank to the north was drained, leaving many customers without water. Once the water pressure is restored, those who do not have water will have access to it again, but are urged to boil it before using it.

The warning to boil water is to ensure the destruction of harmful bacteria by drinking, cooking and making ice. The city said the water should be boiled for two minutes before using it.

Residents will be notified when the water boiling notice is no longer in effect.
