The aftermath of the GameStop stock debacle has led Boomer Esiason to commit to quitting gaming.
The WFAN host on Friday morning went after Mets owner Steve Cohen for his alleged involvement and reaction to the chaos of GameStop actions and said he would no longer go to the Mets’ games until find out exactly what ‘s going on here. “
“Steve Cohen also sent [a tweet] (Thursday) I didn’t like, as far as David Portnoy was concerned, saying, “I’m trying to make a living, just like you,” Esiason said. “Hey, I don’t want to hear it, you know what I mean? Multimillion hedge fund. Just keep your mouth shut.
“The other thing is, he’s also posted another one,‘ Hey, stock jockeys, keep wearing them. ’So he’ll discount the Reddit WallStreetBets people as‘ stock jockeys ’and take them shots like if you knew what’s going on because he’s sitting in that king-bottom chair chair making all these decisions.I hate that. That’s why I told you this morning when I walked in and said, ‘You know what? I swear to God no “I’m not going to any other Met game until I know exactly what’s going on here. In fact, it makes me sick to my stomach.”
Cohen’s Point72 Asset Management and its hedge fund Citadel had reportedly invested $ 2.752 billion combined in Melvin Capital Management, which has been crushed after a short attempt to take advantage of GameStop shares.
“There are a lot of people on Twitter tonight,” Cohen, with an estimated net worth of $ 14.6 billion, tweeted Wednesday night. “Hey, stock market jockeys keep wearing it.”
The saga took another turn on Thursday, when the Robinhood app restricted stock trading like GameStop. This prompted David Portnoy of Barstool Sports to accuse Cohen of lending a hand in these restrictions, which Cohen denied “unequivocally.”
In the middle of the round trip on Twitter, Cohen had replied to Portnoy, “I’m trying to make a living just like you.”
But Cohen’s tweets about the GameStop saga didn’t go down well with Esiason.
“I don’t need to hear that shit,” said the former Jets quarterback and Mets fan. “That’s why when you have a baseball team and you want to start tweeting like you’re the big fan you are, you start getting into those situations, it just doesn’t feel right.”
