After escaping from prison last year and hiding for months, a man in the UK was arrested after hiding to buy a copy of Call of Duty, only to be caught by the police in the process.
According to the West Midlands PoliceClint Butler, 36, a fugitive prisoner in Birmingham, ventured on January 13 to buy a copy of Call Of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War. Butler had been hiding from the police, already back November last year he had been released from HMP Spring Hill Prison, located in Buckinghamshire, where he was serving an extended 17-year sentence for offenses such as theft and firearms.
When local police saw Butler and his friend, the couple changed direction to avoid the cops. This caught the attention of police, who asked Butler what he was doing during the pandemic-induced closure. He replied, “I have come for the new Call of Duty because I can’t sit locked up, ”West Midlands police report.
Officers asked for some details, at which point Butler attacked one of the officers. After his arrest, it was revealed that Butler had given police a false name. He received a 13-month sentence for his original jailbreak and an additional six months for the altercation with police.
West Midlands Police Superintendent Nick Rowe seemed puzzled as to why Butler even went out to buy the game, saying, “Why did he decide to risk going back to jail by making the stupid decision to come to town during closing with a friend to buy a video game will remain a mystery. “
