Boulder shooting suspect accused of using a large magazine

DENVER (AP) – Local Colorado prosecutors on Wednesday filed more than 40 more felony charges against a man accused of killing 10 people at a Boulder supermarket last month, including for allegedly using a banned high-capacity magazine by state legislators in response to the latest mass shootings. .

The judicial document listing the new charges includes 19 new victims, including 11 police officers, whom 21-year-old Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa is accused of trying to kill during the attack. Some victims have more than one issue of associated first-degree murder attempts, which specify two different theories about how Alissa allegedly tried to kill them, either intentionally or through “extreme indifference” to human life.

In 2013, Colorado lawmakers banned the sale of ammunition magazines that held more than 15 rounds in response to mass shootings the previous year at a Denver movie theater and Connecticut’s Sandy Hook Elementary School. Despite this, an investigation by KUSA-TV found that some gun shops have been dodging the law by selling the disassembled parts of high-capacity magazines that shoppers can assemble themselves.

Investigators have said Alissa legally bought the Ruger AR-556 pistol, which resembles an AR-15 rifle with a slightly shorter material. He is accused of using it in the shooting six days after passing a background check.

Alissa’s defense has asked for time to assess what one of her lawyers called her “mental illness,” but has offered no details about the illness. He has not yet been asked to file a petition and public defenders representing him are prohibited from speaking to the media about the case under the dispatch policy.
