A store where the suspect in the Colorado supermarket massacre bought his gun reportedly said the sale was lawful after he passed a background check.
Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, bought her AR-156-style Ruger AR-15 at the Eagles Nest Armory in Arvada, about 20 miles southeast of Boulder, 9NEWS reported.
The owner of the store, John Mark Eagleton, said the accused gunman passed a background check before making the purchase.
“We are absolutely amazed by what happened and our hearts are broken by the victims and the families left behind,” he wrote in a statement to the dam.
“Ensuring that all sales that occur in our store is legal, has always been and will continue to be the top priority for our business,” Eagleton continued.
“With respect to the firearm in question, a background check of the buyer was conducted as required by Colorado law and approval of the sale was provided by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. “, he wrote.
“We have and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement while the investigation continues,” the owner added.
Alissa bought the Ruger on March 16, shortly after the firearm was legalized in Boulder, where she allegedly killed 10 people at a King Soopers supermarket six days later.
The Syrian native, who faces ten counts of first-degree homicide and one counts of attempted homicide, appeared in court on Thursday for a trial hearing in the mass murder case.
He remains in the custody of the Boulder County sheriff, but is now housed in an out-of-county prison after prison staff became aware of security concerns and threats.
