Braves are promoted to Sean Kazmar Jr., who has not played MLB since 2008

CHICAGO – The Atlanta Braves put 36-year-old boxing player Sean Kazmar Jr. on the active roster on Saturday, a move that drew a big smile on the face of manager Brian Snitker.

And for good reason. Kazmar has not played in the Major Leagues in more than a decade.

“That was probably one of the best moments I’ve had as a coach at all levels, honestly,” Snitker said of informing Kazmar of his return. “It’s amazing. Going from ’08 to 2021, in the middle, you have to be joking, to have perseverance, dedication and drive.”

Kazmar last played in the Major Leagues on September 23, 2008, with the San Diego Padres, appearing in 19 games this season for his only major league action. He has since played in Triple-A for the Parents, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets and Braves.

The Braves also put left-back Jesse Biddle on the active roster, called right-back Bryse Wilson, put left-hander Sean Newcomb on the injured roster and put the fielder on the field. Ender Inciarte on the 10-day injury list.
