The Lions did Breshad Perriman i Tyrell Williams the veteran components of hisKenny Golladay/Marvin Jones reception body. But only Williams looks set to be part of Detroit’s roster for 2021.
Perriman has moved into the bubble on the Lions roster, notes Justin Rogers of the Detroit News. The former first-round pick has faced a hip injury during camp, but even when available, the crew receiver has not impressed.
“It just wasn’t enough” Dan Campbell said about the injury camp limited by Perriman, through Rogers. “He had a hip injury and then came back, he was solid the other night for the plays he had, but he still had an OPI, which he knows better than. … I think it will be better to get out of this hip. But I think right now this room is still ready. I think there is now strong competition in this room“.
The rebuilding team has one of the thinnest receiving teams in the NFL, so it would be surprising if Perriman didn’t survive the final cuts. The Lions guaranteed the veteran deep threat $ 2 million as part of their $ 2.25 million one-year deal. The 28-year-old has also played for the Lions’ new receiving coach Antwaan Randle El previously (with the Buccaneers in 2019).
Perriman has played on four teams in the past four years, moving from Baltimore to Cleveland to Tampa to New York. With the Jets in 2020, the 6-foot, 2-foot width caught 30 passes for 505 yards and three touchdowns.
Williams and fourth-round rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown they seem to be the only locks that make up the team, according to Rogers, with the latter on track to be the Lions ’main slot receiver. Second year extension Quintez Cephus and veteran Caliph Raymond they try to start in front of Perriman, who was designed to be the role of Perriman. The Lions also have ex-Packers Geronimo Allison and ex UDFA Victor Bolden on his list, and Campbell said ex-UDFA Tom Kennedy has made a push to form the team after a strong preseason so far.
