British police say the EU “made a mistake” about COVID-19 vaccines

The European Union acknowledged that it “made a mistake” when it triggered an emergency provision to control the export of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to British police.

The EU’s bid to control the flow of vaccines carried out within its borders sparked controversy when officials threatened to prevent inoculations from entering Northern Ireland, reviving a tense dispute over the country’s state in a post-Brexit world.

British Cabinet Minister Michael Gove and the European Commission agreed to end any controversy and allow vaccines to cross the border, putting the population of Northern Ireland first, according to the BBC.

Gove said he relied on the UK’s supply of vaccines and was on track to deliver 15 million shots by 15 February, the BBC reported.
