UPDATED: Two days after her commitment was revealed, and just days after her father agreed to step down after 13 years as a Conservative, Britney Spears posted on Instagram “I’ve been waiting 13 years and I’m counting on my freedom.” , and then apparently deleted his entire Instagram account.
After fans expressed concern online later Tuesday afternoon, he clarified in a Twitter post: “Don’t worry, people … just taking a little break on social media to celebrate my engagement. I will be back soon.”

In the deleted post since then, Spears shared an article entitled “Infusing Education with the Heart” and then wrote:
“Growing up in a world where basically almost everything I did was controlled by someone else … I hope this message reaches people who have been confused or manipulated by a system !!!!” Spears wrote in his headline next to a screenshot of the article. “No… you are not alone and no… you are not crazy !!!! People need to hear this before it is VERY LATE !!!! I have been waiting for 13 years and I count on my freedom !!!!! ”
He also thanked the #FreeBritney team for their support. Spears has shared the article in the past, which seeks to encourage children to explore their curiosity rather than teach them in more formal ways.
Celebrities and musicians often delete their social media accounts, either to point out a major new ad, such as an album, or when they’re just fed up. Spears representatives did not immediately respond to Variety’s requests for comment, but a source downplayed Spears’ play as it wasn’t a big deal.
The news of Spears’ engagement came just days after his father, Jamie Spears, filed a petition to end his Conservative tenure, signaling the beginning of the end of the pop star’s long and lasting legal battle that has lasted 13 years. (Spears first became a conservative in 2008 when his father applied for a court-ordered settlement; he has since overseen his property.)
Although Spears’ father has called for an end to the conservatory, the singer’s legal team has never asked the court to extinguish him, and his lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, has only filed for the withdrawal and suspension of the his father. However, regardless of his father’s motivations, Rosengart praised the move as a “massive legal victory” for the star.
Spears ’next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.
