Broadway star Ann Raining, who played Roxy Heart in ‘Chicago’, dies at 71

His brother-in-law Dahrla King told The New York Times on Saturday that he had died in his sleep at a hotel in Seattle. The cause of death is not yet known, the NYT said.
In a statement to Variety, the family mourned the loss of his “beautiful soul”.

“The world and our family have lost a vibrant, wonderful talent and beautiful soul. Ann was the heart of our family and the life of the party,” the statement said. “He met our brother in Washington State when he went to sleep, never woke up. We will miss her more than we say. Heaven now has the best choreographer. I hope they play a storm there! Annie, we will always love you and miss you !!!”

Born in Seattle in 1949, Ringing is best known for dancing on New York City Broadway shows, according to his biography at IMDB.

After making his film debut in the 1978 film “Movie”, he starred in Bob Foss’ biography “All That Jazz” and won several Oscar nominations.

Raining played Grace Farrell as Daddy Warbux Secretary in John Huston’s “Annie” in 1982.

Following his role as Mickey in the 1984 comedy “Mickey + Mode”, Raining retired from acting and never returned to the silver screen.

Instead, she performed on television and on stage, making a big Broadway comeback in the 1990s as “Roxy Hart” in “Chicago”, which won the Tony Award for Best Dance.

According to Playbill.com, Reining received several other Tony nominations for his performances in “Foss,” “Dance,” and “Good Time Charlie.”
