Brooke Baldwin announces she will leave CNN: “Just do more”

Anchor Brooke Baldwin leaves CNN after more than a decade on the cable news network.

Baldwin announced his next outing during a antenna segment on Tuesday, sharing that he will leave the network in April. The anchor joined CNN as a freelancer in 2008 before fulfilling her “dream” of becoming a full-time correspondent, she said.

“I remember writing my name on a post-it note and sticking it out of that temporary office, determined to fulfill my dream of becoming a full-time CNN correspondent,” he said. “I wanted to be part of the best cable and journalism news and, as a native Atlantean, this would be my hometown team.”

Baldwin later thanked his fellow CNN viewers and viewers: “I am very grateful for your loyalty and passion for the world we cover.”

The anchor also expressed gratitude to viewers who sent him messages of support when he had COVID-19 last year. Baldwin announced that he had tested positive for the virus in April. He returned to work weeks later, describing his time with the coronavirus as “relentless, terrifying and lonely.”

Baldwin’s work at CNN over the years has included coverage of the 2016 presidential election; reports from overseas locations, including Europe, Africa and the Middle East; and visiting Newtown, Connecticut, where he reported on the massive shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to his CNN biography.

Anchor, who has been working on a book titled “Huddle: How Women Unlock The Collective Power,” said live that she’s not jumping into a new job right away and that she feels “vulnerable.”

“You just have to do more, do more outside of this place, outside the walls of this place, a place where I have had the privilege of calling home now for 13 years,” he said. “And yes, we are still in a pandemic, and no, I do not have a job in which I am jumping straight. And yes, yes, I feel very vulnerable.
