Bryce Young, a 5-star QB recruit, impresses in Alabama spring game and earns MVP honors

Bryce Young took on the role of first-team quarterback and impressed during Alabama’s spring game on Saturday, earning the honors of the most valuable player after completing 25 of 44 passes for 333 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

Young, a former five-star prospect, was Mac Jones ’first backup as a freshman last season. He appeared in nine games, including recent times during Alabama’s win against Ohio State in the national championship game.

Coach Nick Saban said after the fight that Young played well all spring.

“We continue to work to have a presence that affects other people in a positive way,” Saban said. “And I think he’s starting to have more and more respect from other players for the way he plays.

“But every mix we had was doing really well and I thought it was doing well today.”

Young was not the only subclass player to stand out during the spring game, which saw a number of veterans offside due to injuries, including great starting receiver John Metchie, defensive end Malachi Moore and offensive player Emil Ekiyor. .

Agiye Hall, a four-star student and No. 20 receiver in the 2021 class, according to ESPN, entered the first year of freshman year, taking four passes for 72 yards.

“He’s someone we think has a lot of potential,” Saban said of Hall. “He makes a lot of contested catches. He’s a big size and he really has an explosive speed.”

In the second year Jah-Marien Latham was named most valuable lineman. The 285-pound 6-foot, 3-pound defensive team finished the fight with a sack, two rushing quarterbacks and four attacks.

Junior defensive defender DeMarcco Hellams led all players with a total of 12 attacks. He also broke a pass and forced a rumble.

Saban said overall was a “very productive spring” for the team.

“For the most part, we didn’t have any problems during the spring, so we did a lot of practice,” he said. “I’m not happy with where we are, we have a lot of work to do as a team.”

Alabama is scheduled to open the season on Sept. 4 against Miami in Atlanta.
