Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants (knee) out of training in victory against the New York Mets

NEW YORK – Buster Posey was out of training for the San Francisco Giants’ 3-2 win over the New York Mets on Wednesday night after leaving a game with left knee discomfort while Brandon Crawford played on the field after of having experienced tension in the back.

Coach Gabe Kapler said both players were excited about how they felt arriving at the park on Wednesday.

Posey, 34, was retired in the fifth inning Tuesday night during an 8-0 win over the Mets after plate referee Greg Gibson told Kapler Posey looked out.

Kapler said the seventh All-Star was moving well on Wednesday and planned to test his knee in a squat position on a catcher during batting practice. Curt Casali had to start anyway.

“Right now, that’s good news,” Kapler said. “But obviously these things go round and round, so we’ll keep an eye on it.”

Posey has had a resurgent year after skipping the reduced coronavirus season of 2020 when he and his wife adopted twin girls who were born prematurely. The 2012 National League MVP scored a goal and scored in Tuesday’s fourth inning to raise his batting average to .314 with 39 RBI and a .925 OPS.

Crawford, 34, finished fifth a day after being lifted in seventh place. Kapler said Crawford felt some tension before Tuesday’s game and, with San Francisco blasting New York, the club pulled him off his feet.

Crawford won 1-on-4 with 2 higher runs in Wednesday’s win, earning a double in the seventh inning.
