California health officials are urging COVID-19 vaccine suppliers to stop using a batch of Moderna shots after a handful of people who were inoculated at the same site had allergic reactions.
Less than ten people reported reactions after receiving doses at a San Diego vaccination site last week, according to FOX5 San Diego.
“It appears that everyone experienced a possible severe allergic reaction during the standard observation period, a type of adverse event that the CDC reports some people experienced when they received a COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine site changed. to another batch of Modern vaccine after closing for a few hours, ”the California Department of Public Health said.
Petco Park’s massive vaccination site, the House of Fathers, opened Jan. 11 to deliver vaccines to health workers on the state’s priority list, the station reports.
Nearly a third of the million doses in the Modern batch were shipped to another 286 Golden State suppliers, with no further reports of negative reactions.
Still, officials say it’s better to be safe than sorry.
“Out of an extreme abundance of precaution and also acknowledging the extremely limited supply of vaccine, we recommend that suppliers use other available vaccine inventories,” the press release said.
Officials noted that there is a certain risk to any vaccine or medical procedure, and it is very unlikely that anyone will experience a negative reaction.
Modern, the CDC and the FDA are reviewing the batch and hope to learn more this week. Replacement doses are not immediately available, according to FOX5.
Federal officials have previously noted that some participants in vaccine trials who had cosmetic facial fillings suffered side effects.
