California Launches Volunteer Shootout Program at COVID-19 Vaccination Sites – NBC Bay Area

As COVID-19 vaccines continue to grow throughout California, the state is deploying a volunteer-proof work program.

The governor’s office, along with California Volunteers, on Monday launched MyTurnVolunteer, a portal where people can sign up to work in volunteer shifts at vaccination sites, based on their zip code, and in turn be eligible for a shot.

A California Volunteer spokesman told SFGate that most vaccination sites are looking for medical or general support volunteers and that anyone who works four hours or more can get a vaccine, even if they are not eligible under state guidelines.

Opportunities are limited, officials said, but people can register on the portal to receive notification when a volunteer space is opened.

Currently, general eligibility for vaccination is limited to people over the age of 65, health care workers, and certain essential workers, such as educators, according to the state-level system.

As of Monday, more than 10.5 million doses of vaccine have been administered statewide, more than 13.3 million doses have been administered in the state and more than 14.5 million doses , including the first and second doses, have been shipped to California, according to the latest state data numbers.
