Cam Newton, among notable cuts, as NFL teams reduce the list to 53

The latest cuts in the NFL are fueling the free agent market.

Before i following quarterback Cam Newton’s surprise New England pitch on Tuesday, the teams made great strides to reduce their roster from 80 men to just 53 ahead of the regular season. And, after 4pm on Tuesday, it is estimated that there will be 864 unemployed players.

The Jets cut quarterback Josh Johnson less than a month after the crew signed. Mike White has been promoted to security QB by rookie star Zach Wilson.

The Bears published CB Desmond Trufant, according to NFL informant Adam Schefter. The 2015 Pro Bowler, who turns 31 in September, still has $ 10 million from the Lions. Trufant reportedly left Chicago on Aug. 13 to be with his father, who died two days later, and stayed with his family during training camp, but wants to continue playing, according to Schefter.

Chicago also cut Riley Ridley, Calvin Ridley, Falcons’ little brother.

The Jaguars released WR Pharoh Cooper, WR Phillip Dorsett II, OL Jermaine Eluemunor, WR Devin Smith, WR Laquon Treadwell and safety Jarrod Wilson.

The Eagles pitched their top receiver last year, Travis Fulgham. After Philadelphia drafted DeVonta Smith in the first round, Fulgham began to fall out of the receiving rotation. Then, with Quez Watkins ’impressive performance on training ground and preseason, the 25-year-old Fulgham was a later thought.
