The shocking images released Sunday offer a new look inside the deadly revolt of the United States Capitol; after the invaders as they search for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other lawmakers, they sit in Vice President Mike Pence’s seat and rifle through lawmakers ’documents.
The nearly 13 minutes of filming edited were shot by war correspondent Luke Mogelson and published Sunday by The New Yorker, of which Mogelson is a contributing writer.
The video opens with scenes of hordes of pro-Trump riots dominating U.S. Capitol police and being heard in the seat of American democracy through shattered doors and windows.
“You’re in excess!” a commotion can be heard telling a small contingent of policemen trying to keep the line inside a Capitol corridor. “There are a million people, and we’re listening to Trump, your boss!”
The contingent of mutineers supported the policemen overwhelmed by a corridor across the size of their group and headed for a staircase, with an invader shouting as they parted: “We love you, boys! Take it easy!”
A group of dozens sang, “Betrayal! Betrayal! Betrayal! ”As they chased the rooms, the video shows.
“Knock knock!” a man mocked the doors of the Senate gallery that suddenly opened and sent fluids to rioters. “They were here!”
Members of this group can be heard wondering where Congress lawmakers were, who had tried to certify the results of Joe Biden’s presidential election victory when the riot erupted following a rally in which Trump encouraged his followers to “fight like hell” against the process of.
“Where are the fk?” cried a man on seeing the desert of the Senate flat.
“Where’s Fk Nancy?” it was another call.
As rioters dressed in combat gear headed for the Senate floor, a debate began over the optics of the acquisition.
The dispute centered around an intruder sitting in the chair reserved for Senate President Pence, whom Trump was accused of not doing enough to fight election results and was one of those forced to evacuate when the riot broke out.
“Hey, get out of this chair!” Larry Brock, a retired Texas Air Force lieutenant colonel wearing zip ties, can be heard telling the unidentified man to occupy Pence’s seat.
“No, this is our chair!” called a third man.
“It’s not our chair,” Brock countered. “I love you, you are brothers, but we cannot be disrespectful.”
A riot police further challenged Brock, citing a conspiracy theory that the 2020 presidential election was rigged against Trump.
“They can steal an election, but can’t we sit in their chairs?” The man asked.
“No, we can’t stand it either!” Brock insisted. “Look, it’s a public relations war. … We are better than that. “
While the group mocked, others roamed the legislators’ desks, apparently looking for documents to back up their claim that the election was called.
A handful of intruders stumbled upon papers detailing what someone identified as “objection to Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz’s election results.”
The discovery left some confused about exactly what the newspapers were supposed to show.
“Your objection! It would sell to us all the time! A man smoked.
“Wait, no, that’s good!” fooled into another crowded around the document.
One of Trump’s most loyal supporters in Congress, Cruz was one of those who questioned the legitimacy of Biden’s victory in Arizona, and filed an unsuccessful protest even hours after the riot.
Two others leafed through a folder, apparently also looking for evidence or incriminating material, as the video shows.
“There must be something here that we can use against this shit,” one man murmured, flipping through the pages casually.
“[Republican Missouri Sen. Josh] Hawley, Cruz. I think Cruz would like us to do it, ”another man sang. “I think we’re fine.”
Above them, in the gallery, Jacob Chansley, “QAnon Shaman,” with a horned helmet and red, white, and blue face paint, sang unintelligibly, rhythmically treading the feet and stick of a American flag.
In a later segment, Chansley (also known as Jake Angeli) went down to the Senate floor, followed closely by a lone cop, the video shows.
“You are the king’s patriots,” Angeli told the group. “Look at this guy. It is covered in blood. May God bless you.”
The man Angeli was referring to, lying on the floor with a small swell of blood on his shirt, said he “was shot in the face with some kind of plastic bullet,” but turned down an offer. of medical aid.
As Angeli climbed onto the dais and prepared to sit in Pence’s seat, the policeman did his best to disperse the crowd.
“Is there any chance he could get you out of the Senate wing?” he asked.
The bloodied man on the floor replied, “We will. I made sure they didn’t respect the place.”
Angeli, however, decided to make it home.
“I’ll sit in that chair because Mike Pence is a traitor,” he said.
As police watched, Angeli asked another riot police to use her phone to take a picture of her sitting in Pence’s chair.
Once Angel took his picture, the cop grabbed another crack.
“Now that you’ve done that, can I get you out of this room, please?” he asked.
The group seemed to be complying, but not before Angeli wrote a message on a piece of paper in front of Pence’s seat: “It’s only a matter of time.[,] justice is coming! ”
However, in a later segment, Angeli and others returned to the stage with a megaphone to shout a “prayer.”
“Thank you, Heavenly Father, for being the necessary inspiration for these police officers to allow us to enter the building, allow us to exercise our rights, allow us to send a message to all tyrants, communists and globalists “. said Angeli.
In the outer room of the Senate chamber, police were doing their best to direct riot police outside the building.
“We support you, don’t we?” an anti-riot could be heard telling an officer. “We know you’re doing your job.”
Back outside the Capitol, however, it was a different scene, as another contingent of riots clashed with police trying to restore order.
“F – k the blue! F – k the blue! ”Some of the crowd sang, as shown in the video, in an apparent reference to the police.
Five people were killed in the chaos, including a U.S. Capitol police officer sprayed with pepper and hit with a fire extinguisher.
So far, dozens of people have been arrested and charged, although authorities have said the number is expected to reach hundreds.
