Carolina Township honors memory of police officers killed after shooting

An ecumenical event was held in Carolina attended by Mayor José Carlos Aponte Dalmau where the memory of the fallen agents in the performance of duty was honored last Monday.

“I want you to know that in this place we are going to permanently honor our three heroes. And we are going to honor all the comrades who have fallen in fulfillment of their duty. This will be a place where we can remember forever. Here “We unite the Municipal Police and the State Police. We all look after the well-being of our people. I walked along these sidewalks and walked with them on Green Island Avenue and they do it well, ensuring our safety,” he said Carolina Mayor José Carlos Aponte Dalmau.

The mayor explained that a monument will be built to honor agents Luis Marrero Díaz, Luis Salaman Conde and Eliezer Hernández Cartagena.

“There is no other solution to get people to understand that drugs and narcotics what they do is enslave them. And they make these criminals rich,” Carolina’s chief executive added.

All three officers died Monday while answering a call for a vehicle crash. When they arrived at the scene, the suspect shot at two of the officers and then ran over another.

A fourth policeman was injured, but is stable.
