With only two weeks left for the 2020 NFL regular season, Carson Wentz’s trade debate is sure to heat up and league teams will head to his quarterback quarterback.
During a recent Pro Football Focus article, a list of hypothetical trades with some of the most polarizing quarterbacks in the league was proposed.
Wentz is currently the most polarizing, and with Denver needing a franchise signal call, the Eagles quarterback’s proposal to go to the Broncos for three picks was the headliner.
Although everyone likes to point out the Carson Wentz-Frank Reich connection from their days in Philadelphia, what if the Denver Broncos themselves were the buyers this time around? John Elway should be on a relatively thin ice, with another quarterback decision that doesn’t look fantastic on Drew Lock. Yes, it’s early with Lock, and Wentz himself has illustrated the volatility that a young quarterback can bring, but it may still be the best option for Denver. With a 5-9 record, the Broncos are not expected to rank in the top ten.
With a good defense to recapture Von Miller, a solid offensive line anchored by the newly expanded LT Garett Bolles and a receiving body of Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Noah Fant and more, this team is ready to compete in 2021. This is not happening with Drew Lock. Maybe Elway and Vic Fangio shoot their backs against the wall.
Hypothetical trade: Carson Wentz → Denver Broncos for a 2nd, 5th and future 3rd
It is unknown whether the Eagles will even entertain Wentz’s trade, but the idea that both sides need a change of scenery cannot be ignored.
In cities like Denver and Indianapolis, Wentz would be able to fly a little further under the radar, and the lack of attention could be what the doctor ordered in terms of increased confidence.
