CBS has launched an internal review after Sharon Osbourne clashed with co-host Sheryl Underwood over Osbourne’s support of former “Good Morning Britain” presenter Piers Morgan after she left the show.
“We are committed to a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace,” CBS said in a statement to The Hill. “All issues related to Wednesday’s episode of ‘The Talk’ are currently under internal review.”
Part of Wednesday’s episode became tense after Underwood asked Osbourne what he would say to those who saw Osbourne’s support for Morgan to be racist.
“I even feel like I’m about to get in the electric chair because I have a friend that a lot of people think is racist, so he makes me racist. And for me, at 68, having to turn around and say, “I’m not racist,” what does that have to do with me? Osbourne said. “How can I be racist with anyone? How can I be racist with anyone or anything in my life? How can I?”
Underwood quietly brought the show to a break. When the show returned, Osbourne demanded to know Underwood what was racist about Morgan’s past comments and behaviors.
The conflict between Underwood and Osbourne came after Morgan, during an episode of “Good Morning Britain” on Monday, said he did not believe aspects of Meghan, the Duchess of SussexMeghan MarklePoll: British public opinion of Meghan and Harry down after the interview with Oprah Rightthink or Wrongthink? When he returned the conversation to “The Talk,” Osbourne repeatedly repeated to Underwood why Morgan’s actions were racist.
“I’ll ask you again, Sheryl.” I’ve been asking you during the break. I ask you again and don’t try to cry, because if someone has to cry, it will be me, ”said Osbourne. “Tell me where you heard it. Educate me. Tell me when you’ve heard him say racist things and educate me. Tell me! ”
Underwood calmly explained that he did not directly accuse Osbourne of being racist, but felt that Morgan had been racist with Meghan in his stance. The segment then cooled, while co-hosts Elaine Welteroth and Amanda Kloots joined the discussion.
Osbourne apologized for the exchange on Twitter on Friday after the reaction.
“For anyone of color I have offended and / or for anyone who feels confused or disappointed by what I have said, I am sorry,” he said. “I panicked, I felt blind, I defended myself and I allowed my fear and horror of being accused of being racist to take over.”

Morgan on Friday demanded that “The Talk” apologize to Osbourne for the meeting.
“Sharon has been embarrassed and intimidated into apologizing for defending me against my classmates who accused me of racism because I don’t think Meghan Markle’s pocket,” Morgan tweeted. “It simply came to our notice then. I apologize to those who harassed @TheTalkCBS for their shameful embarrassment against ME. ”
