The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updated the chart that defines the level of community transmission of COVID-19 in each of the nation’s states and territories.
The agency lowered Puerto Rico to an orange level, which means there is a “substantial” risk of community transmission on the Island. All other states and territories, including Guam and the Virgin Islands, are on the red level, which means “high.”
No jurisdiction is at a low level.
According to CDC data, the number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Puerto Rico is 89.5. In addition, the percentage of positivity in the last seven days remained at 8 to 9.9%.
The Department of Health today reported 416 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 21 deaths as a result of viruses.
In total, there are 417 hospitalized adults, 124 in intensive care and 41 in minors, one of whom is in intensive care.
Despite falling to the level of community transmission, the CDC keeps Puerto Rico at a very high level of risk for travel. They continue the recommendation to be vaccinated to travel to the Island.
