The Wizard: Ronin is a manga that sees the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, a monster killer, reshape the world of Japanese folklore, and CD Projekt Red, a well-known RPG maker, wants your help to make it a reality. The company launched a Kickstarter campaign for the project today with the goal of raising just over $ 100,000 to deliver to the hands of fans.

Announced to WitcherCon in July, The Wizard: Ronin is written by Rafał Jaki, a long-time comic book publisher and illustrated by Japanese artist Hataya, and features a vision of “Elseworlds” about the titular hero that is outside the official Witcher canon. It sounds great and the exclusive 100-page hardcover version of the Kickstarter campaign looks like it’s worth the asking price of $ 40. But why does the CDPR ask fans to mass-fund the manga?

The developer and publisher of games based in Poland is the largest in the country and is worth several million dollars. And despite the success he pulled off Cyberpunk 2077the wreck of a launch continues do it right for yourself. Still, he’s asking for fan support The Wizard: Ronin as if it were some indie imprint that had just come out of the ground. There is even a good start.

“Time is of the essence! Come back within the first 24 hours of the campaign and receive an exclusive collection thumbnail inspired by The Wizard: Ronin with your promise! “The CDPR writes in today’s announcement.

The company has already met its initial goal and is currently aiming to raise more than $ 200,000 in the early hours of the project. CDPR tried to avoid possible criticism of its reliance on the crowdfunding platform come back when Ronin was first announced, citing it as a means to create a luxury collection edition and also to launch the manga worldwide. The company also said the collector’s edition could be expanded with additional support.

“The more support the comic has, the more new artists we could get to create an impressive illustrative variant, while showing unique shots of this Japanese-inspired Witcher story,” CDPR wrote on Kickstarter.

Undoubtedly, the Kickstarter campaign also serves to be a good additional publicity and an easy way to get pre-orders effectively. Ronin it is not expected to be shipped until early 2022.

“Rewards aren’t guaranteed, but creators need to regularly update sponsors,” says the Kickstarter reminder in the center of the page. I have no doubt that the CDPR will be able to deliver it. In the end, several times the size of established comic book labels like Dark Horse.
