The stars showed their support for Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, following the bombing, an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired Sunday on CBS. It was the first she and her husband, Prince Harry, had given since they retired from their official royal duties last year.
Harry and Meghan spent a lot of time giving their side to many of the tabloid stories that have circulated about them since they met.
When Oprah asked Meghan if she was worried about how the royal family would react to the interview, the duchess replied, “I don’t know how they might expect that after all this time, we’ll still be silent if there’s an active role she has.” The Firm “(royal family) in the perpetuation of falsehoods about us. And if that carries the risk of losing things, I mean, there are many things that have already been lost.”
Meghan and Harry gave their opinion on the drama behind their actual departure and asked questions about “how dark” would be their baby’s skin tone. Meghan also talked about having suicidal thoughts, and she and Harry offered their opinions on how they were treated by members of the royal family.
After the interview, tennis legend Serena Williams sent a tweet with a message of support to the Duchess of Sussex saying, “Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life (and sets the example) with empathy and compassion. He teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. His words illustrate the pain and cruelty he has experienced. “
Other celebrities, activists and artists such as Jada Pinkett Smith, Leslie Jordan and Bernice King were thrilled to speak out, supporting the couple. Some even created jokes aimed at the monarchy.
Meghan has also received support from stars such as Gabrielle Union, Chance the Rapper and Halle Berry, who came forward to defend her on Thursday against allegations of bullying.
The British newspaper The Times reported that Meghan faces allegations of harassment of staff at the royal house during her stay at Kensington Palace. The palace says it will investigate the allegations, but a spokesman for Meghan and Harry called them a “calculated defamation campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation.”
