NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Finance has given Infosys a deadline of September 15 to solve the problems of the new computer portal.
The company’s chief executive, Salil Parekh, met on Monday with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi after she was “summoned” by the portal attacks.
Sitharaman is believed to have conveyed the government’s “deep disappointment and concern” over the continuing problems of the new income tax filing portal.
In a statement issued by the Income Tax department, it was stated that during the meeting the Minister of Finance stressed the need to devote more resources and efforts by Infosys to ensure the very delayed delivery of services agreed.
“The Honorable Minister of Finance demanded that the team resolve taxpayers’ issues about the portal’s current functionalities before September 15, 2021 so that taxpayers and professionals can work seamlessly on the portal, ”the IT department said. in a statement after the meeting.
Sitharaman had also met Parekh and company COO Pravin Rao on 22 June.
Infosys was awarded the contract in 2019 to develop the new income tax filing portal. The project aimed to develop the next-generation income tax filing system to reduce the processing time of returns from 63 days to a day and also speed up refunds.
However, the portal www.incometax.gov.in has been facing problems since its launch, and users complain that some features were not available or were running slowly.
In July, the finance ministry asked the Institute of Public Accountants of India to set up a seven-member working group to study the technical problems facing the new electronic income tax filing portal developed by Infosys. The ICAI then set up a team to analyze the problems.
The portal was not accessible on August 21 and 22 until late in the evening. He returned after what the senior technician described as an “emergency maintenance.”
The Infosys India business unit in a tweet on Sunday afternoon said: “Emergency maintenance of the @IncomeTaxIndia portal is over and the portal is active. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to taxpayers.”
