Xavier López “Chabelo” is one of the most iconic characters in the history of television in Mexico as many generations grew up watching their fun programs and although it is almost six years since “In Family with Chabelo” came out of the air, the name of actor and conductor it continues to become a trend every Sunday and that is why today we remember how his beginnings on television were.
Chabelo’s real name is Xavier López Rodríguez i he was born on February 17, 1935 in Chicago, USA, however, they also have Mexican nationality. After his birth, Xavier López and his family returned to Mexico, but at the age of 18 he returned to the United States to do his military service and then conclude again. return to Mexico to study the career of Surgeon at the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Beginnings on television
While Xavier López was studying, get a job at Televicentro to cover his expenses and it is known that it was here that his taste for television and acting arose so after four years in which he divided his time between his career in medicine and his work in l company that would later become Televisa, finally he chose to hang up his robe and focus on studying acting.
Its first opportunity in television would arrive at the denominated emissions “teleteatros” where it was the substitute of actors who lacked or arrived late and was in the year 1954 when he was born “Chabelo” in a program of Ramiro Gamboa “Uncle Gamboín” where Xavier López took part in a sketch where he had to play the character of a boy named “Chabelo” and to everyone’s surprise, the character liked it a lot and gradually gained popularity until he had his own radio show and ventured into cinema where his character had more projection after a brief participation in the movie “The Extra” by Mario Moreno “Cantinflas”.
In the 1960s he participated in several films and programs that were very popular, however, he was in 1967 when the program “En familia amb Chabelo” premiered, Which was broadcast uninterruptedly every Sunday until 2015 and which, thanks to its fun contests, musical interventions and “catafixias” features, became one of the favorite programs of Mexican families.
In addition to “In Family with Chabelo”, Xavier López participated in soap operas, a large number of films, comedy series and to make matters worse he also made a career as a singer because record about 30 albums with songs aimed at children.
