The First Chamber of Civil of the First Section of the Center announced this Tuesday afternoon the sentence against the former President of the Republic, Elías Antonio Saca, and his wife Ana Ligia in case of illicit enrichment.

The former president and his wife were sentenced to repay $ 4.4 million to the state. Antonio Treu must return $ 3.8 million and his wife Ana Ligia must return $ 589,608, according to the House ruling.

The former president was found guilty of illegally enriching himself with public funds, so both he and his wife will have to return the funds to state coffers.

However, the former Salvadoran ruler will only serve eight years of the sentence, as decided on September 28, 2020 by the Second Court of Penitentiary Surveillance in special hearing.
