Charles Martinet would love to express Mario in the next lighting film

Like any other major video game franchise right now, Super Mario is adapting to a big screen movie.

If you’ve been wondering if Mario’s voice, Charles Martinet, will give voice to the iconic plumber of the upcoming CGI movie, you might want to keep reading. In Charles’ words, he has apparently not been contacted by Nintendo or Illumination at this stage.

“Well it sounds like a wonderful thing. It sounds like a lot of fun and if I’m invited to play, I’ll come in to play with a lot of joy and happiness.”

“It must be a lot of fun, you know, everything that touches the lighting seems to be fun and so does Nintendo.”

If this is the case, perhaps production has not yet been decided. That being said, Hollywood also seems to have a bit of a habit of replacing the voice talent of video game characters with famous movie characters.

Just earlier this week, for example, Jack Black was announced as the voice of Borderland’s Claptrap. At the time, the character’s original voice said it was an “overwhelming disappointment” to lose the role, but he wished Black all the best.

The Super Mario CGI movie will be released in 2022. Nintendo is proactively involved in its creation and Shigeru Miyamoto is involved as a co-producer.

What would you think if Charles didn’t express Mario in the next movie? Do you still think he will be chosen as the voice of Mario in this big screen version? Share your thoughts below.
